Voltage Outdoor Landscape

Why are some low voltage transformers labeled "Outdoor Use Only"?
From what I've seen at local home improvement stores, all the transformers used for landscape lighting are labeled "Outdoor Use Only." Why is that? What can go wrong if I install one indoors? Can I stall one in a non-living space like the garage or a water heater closet?
transformers get hot... they need to be outside where the heat can dissipate.... inside, some fool might have them too close to something that could catch on fire..... so 'outdoors only' is a good way for them to protect you and themselves.....
"...outdoor lighting transformers are also made from very durable materials such as heavy extruded aluminum housing, and rain-tight enclosures to ensure a long life and to operate safely at high temperatures."
that from this site....
