Want to buy a new house or plus one?

If you have a choice between two houses in the same area: a. A house built in 2003 with Energy Star features in a new neighborhood, open floor plan, but smaller garden. b. A house built in 1980 with mature trees, large yard, at a price cheaper, but needs updating. (Note: Assuming that you can not put an old house in "Energy Star" compliant.) What is interesting to you? What other factors do you consider?

It is almost certainly 2003. Open floor plan is generally more convenient and more able to live. You're not just asking for trouble with the older aesthetic, one might think a new roof, new windows, better insulation, etc. Good luck!
