Ceiling Lighting Light

Why Ceiling Fan Lights Are Seen As The Most Energy Efficient Indoor Lighting Option
It is an image that is perhaps more akin to the sweltering heat of the tropics, but there is no reason why a ceiling fan cannot have a home in more temperate parts of the world. The fact that modern ceiling fans come complete with lights only adds to the practicality that such a fan can boast, and for many home owners it is the dual role that ceiling fan lights have that has made them so attractive.
There are many advantages that a ceiling light complete with rotating fan has, and not only those relating to lighting a room on those balmy summer evenings. It is also equally useful in winter, and makes a real contribution to energy efficiency. True, it may seem at first that a fan is unnecessary, but the combination of the two functions is part a modern wave of new lifestyle thinking, in the same vein of outdoor garden lights, which have turned the garden from a daytime facility to a 24 hour facility.
When it comes to home heating efficiency, the key advantages of these lights lie in ventilation and air recycling. In summer, when the natural temperature of the air is warmer, the atmosphere in a room can be affected. However, the rotating fan actually renews the air and freshens the atmosphere. This air recycling is basically a natural method of ventilation and, in studies; the ceiling fan has proven to reduce the temperature in a room by as much as 8 degrees.
In winter, a similar effect can be enjoyed, though this time the warm air is created by the home heating system. Greater efficiency is achieved by moving the warm air, which is closest to the ceiling, around the room, and as the air circulates the colder air is pushed upwards. In this way, the heating level in the room is maintained at a more consistent temperature. It is estimated that the cost of heating any specific room is reduced by almost 10 percent.
Interestingly, it is generally advised that the direction of the rotation changes with the seasons. This is because the blades of the fan are usually set at a slight angle to ensure that the blade does not simply cut through the air, but directs it either slightly upwards or downwards. So, it is advisable to rotate a fan in a clockwise direction in summer, so as to push the warm air upwards, while in winter, an anti clockwise direction is preferred as it pushes the warm air downwards.
There are some technical issues to address in order to make the most of the ceiling fan. Position is particularly important, with the blades of the fan ideally situated 7 to 9 feet above the floor and no more than a foot below the ceiling itself. This is important because of the space required for the warm air to either move upwards or downwards. Insufficient space would seriously affect the performance of a fan, though admittedly the performance of the light would not be affected at all. And of course, the principal purpose of the fixture is the light, which is often situated above a dining room table or over the main sofa and coffee table area of a living room. Logically, however, the provision of light means that it can be positioned anywhere. In larger rooms more than one light and fan ensemble is recommended.
As always, the particular style, finish and size of ceiling fan lights are varied. The traditional wooden bladed fans are still available, but more contemporary materials, like chrome, brushed steel, nickle and brass, are also amongst the choices. The blades may number three or five, and can be curved or angled, while the fan can be operated by remote control with some sporting three separate speed options, as well as a reversible motion option allowing both clockwise and anti clockwise rotation.
However, for many, it is the ceiling light itself that is of greatest interest. These can vary from one single light bulb to three spotlights, all matching a desired style to match any given interior decor.
Outdoors, ventilation is not a problem though lighting has been covered with the development of affordable outdoor garden lights. Indoors, however, it takes the marriage of ceiling fans and lights together to provide the same kind of refreshing illumination.
